A New Era Is Emerging in Battery Technology

In an almost unforeseen manner, the trajectory of battery technology development has fluctuated between periods of stagnation to tremendous discoveries. The concept of an electric vehicle powered by batteries predates the invention of the automobile itself. The trend...

Electric Bikes for Adults and Children

Electric bikes have been around for a while, but it wasn't until lithium rechargeable batteries advanced that they were able to offer the power, energy storage, lightweight construction, energy-efficient brushless motors, and in some cases, regenerative braking...

Epsom Salt Is Used To Recondition Batteries

Epsom salt is used to recondition batteries is a cost-effective way to extend and revive the natural life of your lead-acid battery. When it comes to paying a high price for brand new products when I can still get some use out of my old ones, I, too, am a skeptic. You...

Battery Care for Electric Golf Carts

The performance of electric golf carts is powered by batteries. Battery Care for Electric Golf Carts, is A little preventative maintenance can go a long way toward extending the battery's life, decreasing the need for battery repairs, and even improving the...

Even when the ignition is turned off, electronic motorbike accessories such as ECUs, clocks, and key sensors drain a modest current. It’s also known as parasitic draw. This can and will deplete your battery’s voltage in a matter of days. Motorcycle battery maintenance method, disconnect the battery to prevent these draws from killing it. Batteries self-discharge even when there is no load on them. When batteries are kept discharged for an extended period of time, they get sulfated and may lose their capacity to be charged permanently. Keeping your battery on a maintainer at all times is the best practice.

It’s finally time to tuck the motorcycle away, break out the hot cocoa mugs, and daydream about the new changes you’ll make during the winter. Don’t allow a last-minute battery replacement be one of them. Motorcycle batteries frequently have shorter lifespans due to poor battery maintenance during storage. Improper charging and parasitic draw both shorten the life of your battery. But it doesn’t have to be that way; you have control over how long your battery lasts.

Charging and storing

Motorcycle battery maintenance, keep a motorcycle on a “smart” multi-stage maintenance charger if it will be kept for several weeks or longer. Remove the battery and store it indoors during extended storage, where it may be connected to a maintenance charger and the electrolyte level monitored. If this isn’t possible, or if the battery isn’t in need of maintenance, the battery can be left in the bike and charged with a battery maintenance charger. (A fully charged battery will not freeze until it reaches -68 degrees Celsius, but when discharged, they can freeze at temperatures just a few degrees below water’s freezing point.) Because we rarely intend to leave the bike for as long as we do, make it a practice to connect it whenever you park at home. Many chargers include external quick-connect connections that can be used in seconds.

Regular and trickle chargers are fine for recharging exhausted batteries and putting them back into use, but they lack the circuitry required to keep a battery’s charge in good condition while storage. When trickle chargers are kept on for an extended amount of time, the batteries are overcharged and damaged.

Lithium Technology vs. Lead Acid Technology

It’s a lead acid battery in most cases if you’re still using the same OEM battery from when you bought the bike. The traditional wet cell, despite being a relatively outdated technology, nonetheless has a number of advantages:

Pros:

• Replacement costs are low.

• Robustness can be resurrected from near-zero voltage

• Doesn’t necessitate the use of any special charging units

Cons:

• Because of the wet cells, it’s bulky and there’s not a lot of room to change the proportions for unique designs.

• It can be a lot of weight up high on the motorcycle’s chassis, depending on where your battery tray is positioned.

• If you’re looking for a replacement battery or just want to lose some weight, lithium can be a good option.

Pros:

• Lightweight; no other way is as cost-effective as shedding up to 40-65 percent of the original battery’s static weight.

• When compared to other batteries, it maintains its charge. Over the course of a year, lithium alternatives lose only around 1% of their overall Voltage.

• If separated from the bike, it is not necessary to charge it; simply store it in a dry spot.

• There is no liquid, thus there will be no spilling.

Cons

• Requires a specialist LiFePo4 charger; standard battery chargers can overcharge your lithium battery and irreversibly harm it.

• Expensive

• In harsh temperatures, it may be necessary to use numerous cranks from the starter to “wake up” the battery.

Safety and Maintenance

Because batteries contain sulfuric acid, always heed the warnings. When you working near them, always wear eye protection, rubber gloves, and old clothing, and have baking soda and water on available to neutralize any spilled acid. If nearby sparks or smoking occur, batteries release hydrogen and oxygen, which can explode. Motorcycle battery maintenance, before removing battery terminals, turn off the ignition switch and disconnect the ground side first, so tools don’t spark if they come into contact with metal. To avoid sparks near the battery, always connect the negative jumper cable for the dead battery last, attaching it to a clean metal section of the frame rather than the negative battery terminal. After you’ve attached a battery charger, only plug it in.

Clean and examine terminals on a regular basis. Non-maintenance-free batteries’ electrolyte levels should be checked at least once a month, especially in hot weather or when they are used regularly. The battery may be damaged if the electrolyte level falls below the top of the internal plates. Only refill with distilled water to avoid mineral accumulation and for good battery maintenance. But if you find out that your battery is dead, you can try to battery reconditioning method.
