Procedure

1 Put on your protective safety gear, which includes gloves, an apron, and goggles.

2 Take the battery out of your automobile and set it on your work surface.

3 Corrosion in the battery terminals must be removed. Prepare a solution of baking soda (2 parts) and distilled water (1 part). The end result is a sticky, paste-like substance.

This procedure can be repeated two times. Remove the battery lids and pour the solution into the same bucket as the batteries.

1/2 quart distilled water, heated to 66 degrees Celsius This is done to ensure that all salts are dissolved before combining.

7–8 ounces Epsom salt, mixed in warm distilled water and stirred until thoroughly dissolved

If not all of the cells in the battery have been filled with the new electrolyte solution, repeat the operation.

1 Pour the prepared Epsom salt solution into each cell of your automobile battery using your funnel.

2 Replace the battery caps in your car battery and secure them.

3 Connect your battery charger to your car’s 12V battery and set it to 12V/2amp slow charge mode. Allow 12 to 24 hours for it to charge.

4 After charging, use a voltmeter to check the battery’s voltage. A fully charged and in excellent condition battery will produce a reading of 12.4V to 12.43V.

5 If the battery does not reach that voltage measurement, you must fully discharge and recharge the battery.

6 Run a load test on the battery. A battery load tester is available at any hardware shop. It is only available at a low cost.
